The South Africa’s Bafana Bafana travelling party to Uyo, Nigeria for Friday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Super Eagles encountered flight delay for a few hours.

Recall the South African Football Association (SAFA) had informed its Nigerian counterpart, NFF, of their flight itinerary, and were scheduled to arrive in Uyo yesterday.

SportingSun scooped from Johannesburg, at 3 pm Wednesday, that their Bestfly chartered flight suffered a hitch and was delayed for hours but they finally left Johannesburg at 2 pm (Nigeria time).

SAFA had sought the services of Bestfly -an Angolan private charter aviation firm to fly the 2023 AFCON silver-winning to and from Uyo.

It posted on its official X account (formerly Twitter), “Flight delayed, but we’re on our way, Nigeria bound.”

Recall Coach Hugo Broos had said at Dobsonville Stadium, Soweto on Tuesday that traversing the African continent was never easy and there has been many a tale told about how difficult it is, often flying for hours and trekking by road to reach distant destinations.

“I have to say that we are travelling by charter to Nigeria, thanks to a big financial effort by SAFA to ensure that we are fit and rested to take on Nigeria on their home turf. This is always in our best interests, so I want to thank them immensely.”

The match is billed for the Godswill Akpabio Stadium tomorrow.
