The Nigerian Medical Association has clarified that it is not an affiliate of the Organised Labour and its members are attending to patients who need healthcare services across the country.
The NMA stance is in reaction to reports by some media platforms (not The PUNCH) on Monday, stating that doctors refused to join the ongoing indefinite strike declared by the Organised Labour.
The body in a press statement signed by its National Secretary-General, Dr Benjamin Egbo, stated that though the association is not an affiliate of the Organised Labour, it shares the pains and hardship Nigerians are grappling with.
“The NMA has not declared a strike action, hence doctors will be at their duty posts to attend to clients who desire to use health services.
“The NMA uses this avenue to call on Government as well as all stakeholders to consider the plight of the average Nigerian and do everything possible to address the issues that have led to the present impasse,” the statement partly read.
