UCL: PSG’s fate tied to Mbappe’s performance, says Ferdinand

Former Manchester United star, Rio Ferdinand, has stated that Paris Saint-Germain’s fate is tied to Kylian Mbappe’s performance as they lost to Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League on Wednesday.

He added, “It’s about the team and taking them through. I think there is enough experience in there. They will be disappointed but they know there is more in the tank, they ran Barcelona close today but the last team to score three goals in Paris against PSG was Manchester United five years ago.”

Ferdinand criticized Mbappe while speaking with TNT Sports after the game.

The Ligue 1 champions suffered a 3-2 defeat at home in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

Mbappe’s performance was rated below par in what seemed to be his last chance to win the competition with PSG.

Raphinha put Barca in the front, but the hosts turned the game on its head as Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha struck just after half-time.

Raphinha scored his second goal in the thrilling clash before Andreas Christensen headed in the winner in the 77th minute.

In his reaction, Ferdinand told TNT Sports that, “PSG are not out of it but they have got to be a much better version of themselves in the next game.

“The one we spoke about, the best player in the world in my opinion; Mbappe. He didn’t perform and when he doesn’t perform PSG invariably doesn’t get the result.”
