UCL: Sancho, Reus fire Dortmund to quarter-finals over PSV

Jadon Sancho and Marco Reus scored as Borussia Dortmund beat PSV Eindhoven 2-0 on Wednesday to secure a Champions League last-eight place for the first time in three years..

The game took place at the Westfalenstadion on Wednesday night with the Bundesliga side winning 3-1 on aggregate.

Sancho, on loan from Manchester United, threaded his shot through the legs of an Eindhoven player and in off the post for his second goal in two matches.

The 23-year-old opened the scoring in the third minute with a superb goal from just outside the area.

Sancho’s beautiful low-driven shot found its way past Walter Benitez, who moments earlier denied Ian Maatsen.

Eindhoven, who last reached the quarter-finals in 2007, improved after the break and substitute Hirving Lozano rattled the post with a missile from 25 metres.

Johan Bakayoko dribbled past defender Mats Hummels but could not beat Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel in the 70th minute.

Dortmund had an effort by Niclas Füllkrug ruled offside but Reus did better in stoppage time after Eindhoven had come close through Luuk de Jong.

Julian Brandt and Donyell Malen forced Benitez into a double save after 15 minutes, and it was the hosts that dominated much of the first half.

But Daniele Orsato couldn’t have blown the half-time whistle at a better time for BVB as Peter Bosz’ PSV piled on the pressure in the closing stages.

Niclas Füllkrug thought he doubled Dortmund’s lead with 13 minutes remaining. The German forward met Marco Reus’ cross with perfection but after consulting with the VAR, Füllkrug was adjudged to be offside, marginally.
