Soludo’s best not good enough for Anambra people -PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the two year administration of APGA government in Anambra state as a disaster.

Speaking to newsmen yesterday in Awka  in response to the planned celebration of second year in office, of the state Governor, Prof Charles Soludo, the Anambra state Acting  Chairman of PDP, Engr Chigozie Igwe said Governor Soludo has failed to meet the expectations of Anambra people in the last two years.

“We are actually disappointed that the governor is celebrating his two years in office and talking about second term when he had failed to meet the expectations of the people of Anambra state in his first two years in office”

‘We warned earlier that he was heading to failure and had thought that he would have used the time to critically assess and identify his shortcomings, which are very huge, with the aim of working harder to better his performance’, Igwe said.

He also said, ‘You can see that Soludo feels very satisfied with the little that he has done and do not think that he has more to offer. But Soludo’s best is not good enough for Ndi Anambra, who as the light of the nation, deserve more than the peanuts that this government is dishing out in the name of dividends of democracy’.

He singled out the Awka capital territory, the local government system and the security of lives of Anambra people, as the worst hit areas of the governor’s misrule.

He said, ‘The Awka capital territory remains the worst state capital in Nigeria with very poor infrastructural condition and insecurity which has driven many businesses away, resulting in capital flight and dearth of weekend economy while leaving the state capital, Awka to look more like a ghost town’.

Igwe further said, ‘The local government system is in a bigger mess in Anambra state, where Gov. Soludo has refused to conduct local government elections. He preferred to work with self appointed caretaker local government chairmen, who many view as undertakers that provide conduits for signing away the monthly Federal allocations meant for the local government areas’.

‘So, with the emasculation of the local government system which is the tier of government that is closest to the people by the Soludo government, true democratic deliveries have become very far from the people and that is why we have in Anambra state, today, an aristocratic governance that does not resonate with the wellbeing and feelings of Ndi Anambra’, Igwe said.

He said that the inability of the Soludo government to deal with insecurity in Anambra state has become what he described as ‘an albatross of meaningful governmental impact’.

Igwe said, ‘It is mind boggling that despite the huge resources claimed to have been deployed by the Soludo government to fight insecurity, Anambrarians have not seen any positive result. Kidnappings, robberies, assassinations, killings among others are yet to abate’.

“At the last count, about six Presidents General of various Anambra communities have lost their lives to criminals under curious circumstances. They are PGs of Obosi, Nanka, Nimo, Oroma-Etiti, Umuoji and Omor’, he said.

Igwe said further, ‘It is not a hidden fact that as at today, some communities in Ihiala axis are firmly under the control of criminals where residents are mandated to either pay taxes to the criminals or die’.

He said that PDP is prepared to provide a credible alternative when the time comes.

‘PDP will wipe the tears of Anambra people when the time comes at the expiration of this sad experience. The PDP was on a trajectory, taking Anambra to great heights before the movement was terminated by APGA incursions in 2006. But the eighteen years of APGA rule in Anambra state turned out to be a very bad experience for the people with stagnation in human and infrastructural development”  he said.
