Rivers: Don’t waiver on Abuja Accord, Group tells Fubara

Governor Siminalayi Fubara

A pressure group in the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), PDP Frontliners, has charged Rivers State governor, Siminalayi, to remain committed to the Abuja Accord midwifed by President Bola Tinubu, to resolve the political crisis in the state.

The group, in a statement signed by its
Publicity Secretary Jonah Sylbriks, urged Fubara, to shun politicians whose objectives are to cause conflict between him and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT), Nyesom Wike.

President Tinubu recently brokered a peace deal between the gladiators in the Rivers State political crisis. However, there have been mixed reactions amongst stakeholders over the Abuja Accord.

Nevertheless, the PDP Frontliners stated that those raising issues about the Abuja Accord do not mean well for the Rivers governor and the state.

The group noted that it is imperative for Fubara to know that a lot of “his new supporters” are people, who allegedly wish “he is not in power” and as such may not stand by him when the “chips are down.”

The group urged the governor to focus on how to deliver on the mandate, as well as surpass the achievements of Wike, “whose tenure turned Rivers into a mini political capital of Nigeria, saw rapid urban renewal and brought an end to the regular bouts of violence in the state.”

It noted that “any objective review of Nigeria’s political chessboard and power dynamics in 2023 will easily highlight the Wike factor and the need for Governor Siminalayi Fubara to sustain the deference and respect for his predecessor as well as the accord brokered by President Ahmed Tinubu.”

The group, while recalling the FCT minister’s exploits during the 2023 general elections, noted that “Wike’s traducers need to be told some truth: attacks on Wike will not bring down President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. All those who lost their positions because of Wike cannot reclaim such positions by bringing down Wike.”
