We don’t have confidence in appeal committee, says plateau APC faction

The PUNCH had reported that two factions of the party held parallel congresses on October 16, 2021, which produced separate leadership structures.

The faction loyal to the Governor, Simon Lalong, elected a former Secretary to the Plateau State Government, Rufus Bature, as Chairman, based on a consensus arrangement.

However, aggrieved members of the party held a parallel congress where Itse was elected as chairman.

An appeals committee was set up by the National Headquarters to look into complaints by aggrieved party members.

Itse, who led members of his executive to the APC Secretariat at Ewarewah House, along Yakubu Gowon Way in Jos, to submit their petition to the Appeal Committee stormed out of the meeting.

Addressing journalists, Itse said, “We came here with our 36-member exco and our petition to let the APC constitution take its course but the State Congress Appeal Committee was nowhere to be found.

“As far as we are concerned, there is no State Congress Appeal Committee for Plateau state APC. We have done what we are supposed to do but from the look of things, it is clear that we cannot be given a fair hearing by the state Appeal committee and we no longer have confidence in the committee again.”

However, moments after Itse and his team left the secretariat, the Chairman of the State Congress Appeal Committee, Bulama Ibrahim, arrived with four members of his team.

In an interview with our correspondent, Ibrahim said, “We are here as a State Congress Appeal Committee for Plateau APC to listen to complaints from members if any. We are waiting for complaints to come but for now, we have not received any.”
